Specialised attractions may be thin on the ground, but Madrid is still a family-friendly city.

Bars and restaurants invariably extend a warm welcome to children, there are plenty of parks and gardens where kids can let off steam, while in the summer months a host of open-air pools help combat soaring temperatures.

Some of the most popular options are to be found at Casa de Campo and the Vicente del Bosque sports complex in the north of the city.

Another option if you want more fun and games are the two water parks outside the city. Warner Beach, is attached to the Warner Brothers theme park in San Martín de la Vega, 35 km to the south of the city and Aquopolis is in Villanueva de la Cañada, a similar distance to the west.
