Puy du Fou

Puy du Fou

  • Review

Modelled on the original in France, this acclaimed theme park on the outskirts of Toledo, and some 82km southwest of Madrid, takes visitors on a journey through selected periods in Spanish history via a series of themed villages accompanied by an array of spectacular displays, shows and re-enactments.

The more unsavoury aspects of Spain’s past, including the Civil War, are conveniently glossed over and the version portrayed seems determined to glorify a selective, rather nationalistic, view of the nation’s history, but the theme park is undeniably impressive.

Don’t miss the breath-taking evening finale, “El Sueño de Toledo” with its casts of knights on horseback and dancers recreating a selection of events from over a thousand years of Spanish history.
